Is it worth upgrading this laptop instead of getting a new one?

Current Specs:

 

*17 inch 1600x900    |   i7-4710MQ   |   8GB Ram   |   R9 M290X(HD 8970M)   |   80GB SSD / 1TB 5400 HDD   |   240W PSU

 

For now my main concern is the graphic card and screen... lucky for me my friend has a graphic card, an RX 480 4GB(MXM) and 8GB(4GBx2) of ram that hes willing to sell for $150 cheap for a nice performance boost, then would be the screen....  I have no idea which one is compatible...
