FC Drive compatibility

Hello EMC gurus,

I request your help on a compatibility question :
I work on a CX400, with a Flarecode 2.19.400.5.044. and this system is now out of EMC Maintenance.
I have received and added 8 drives 146GB 15K in empty FC slots.
The Part No for them is 005048660 A08.
The drives have been installed, correctly recognized into Drive Summary and Raid Group and LUNs declared successfully.
After complete operation, I have run Spcollects, and the drives are listed "unknown" for the fields Rotational Speed, Actual Size and Type in the CAP2 tool.
Some drives already installed before and correctly recognized have the Part No : 005048602. for the same drive model (146GB 15K)
Do think that there is a compatibility problem ?
Could you give me some suggestions to solve it ?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards.

    raphlou,
The specific anomoly noted above with displayed info for the 005048660 disk drive has been confirmed to be a known reporting issue that has been fixed in the latest CAP2 (6.28.50.2.29, and later). As I hope you are already aware, CAP2 is a utility for service personnel, and is not generally distributed.

Not all disk drives within the 4Gbit/sec class (CX-4G) are supported for use in the CX-series arrays. The 2Gbit/sec class (CX-2G) is what should be ordered for use in the CX-series arrays including CX400. There are some disk drives that can be used to fulfill orders of either the CX-2G or CX-4G class - it would still help to know what model was actually ordered (CX-2G15-146U or CX-4G15-146U) for use in the CX400.

    Regards,
    DGM

Are those drives from EMC? I didn't see that part number listed as supported in the 'EMC Cx3 and Cx series storage systems Disk and FLARE OE Matrix'. That could be why you are getting the unknown report.

Maybe an EMCer can provide more info.

The noted drive - 005048660 - is a supported drive within the CX-4G15-146 class (4Gbit/sec 15K rpm 146GB). There are some instances where not all variants of a drive (e.g. RoHS and non-RoHS) are currently listed in the Matrix. From the description provided, I would expect it is just a reporting issue with the CAP2 utility, however I would have expected a CX-2G15-146 drive (2Gbit/sec 15K rpm 146GB) to be ordered for use in CX400. It would help if the original poster can please clarify what was ordered for use in the CX400 (CX-2G15-146 or CX-4G15-146).

    Regards,
    DGM

If the new drives are supported - Can this be an issue with the CAP2 version? I suspect the version used by "raphlou" is quite old whereas the new Disk drives being very recent are not recognized by the old CAP2 tool. I may be very much wrong - but it may be worth trying with the latest version of CAP2 tool.

    My 2 cents :)

    Hello Sandip, DGM & AranH,

Thank you very much for your replies.
My CAP2 software version is 6.26.50.1.25.
Please could you certify that the CX-4G15-146U model is supported on the CX400 ?
IMHO, I see no reason why 4 Gb drives cannot work on 2 Gb buses.

    Thank you for your feedback.
    Best regards.

    Hello DGM,

Thank you for your help and your comment.
I do not have the order details, I was only in charge of implementation.
The drives have been ordered for use on CX400, so I will check.
    This is a good experience.
    Best regards.

    Hello EMC Team,

Sorry to come back later on this subject.
I would like to know the best way to define if these drives are supported or not on CX400. I did'nt find drive options in the E-Lab engine.
I have understood and I agree that CX-2G15-146U should be ordered, and this was done in the past. The customer has received CX-4G15-146U and these were installed succesfully in the system. The system is fully operational, but the logs show errors on the back end before drive insertion.
Do we replace these drives ? What type of problem can I meet in the future ?
    005048660 A08 is it supported ?
    Thank you for your feedback.
    Best regards.
