Just set the Event Priorities (Group Configuration> Notifications Tab> E-Mail Event Notifications) to "Informational", log out of the Group administrator, then log back in. You should then receive an email with the notification. If you are looking to test a more serious event, say a drive failure, no, there isn't any way to do this.
