Specifically, using any of the 3 cards (1080Ti, Pascal Titan-X and Pascal Titan-Xp) and running the CUDA-Z benchmark isn't a problem...until you hit the "Heavy Load Test" button. Then, with the Titan cards you will almost ALWAYS have an immediate shutdown. (within 2 seconds). Sadly, the only other choice is to stick with a 1070 or 1080 or use external power.
Ok, well kinda had a feeling, but thought i'd ask to be safe. I know the reference 1080ti will fit and probably a few non reference cards also. Not really a big deal, but just kinda sad that the Aurora sold for all that money and still limited when it comes to the size of a single GPU. So, it's kinda the reason i'm looking at my options, since i'm looking into possibly upgrading to the area 51 and doubt will have any limits to size of cards and so on.
You have an Aurora-R4, so measure it yourself.
I would be surprised if it did not fit. Aurora R1-R4 case is huge inside.Most cards don't reach the other side. Or, they need an add-on piece if it's desired for bracing.

This is relevant, because it is a very long card and I have one here to measure; it's a 12.25" PCB board, 13.5" with the stability bar, so I can at least imagine a 12incher fitting this space. You have to cable manage the space for it of course, and if a card is too wide, you remove the smoked acrylic swing-door:
- note, this owner has the card plugged in wrong, there's an unused blu-ylw cable laying there = to 18amps of unused juice
- shutdown will occur by only using one Grfx cable on this high-power card, he needed to plug in both
As for power, Aurora w/875w power supply was also sold with the following 375watt cards: HD6990, HD8990, TitanZ

A 375watt card, on paper amounts to a 150w draw through one 8pin, 150w through 2nd 8pin, 75w through PCI-E slot. Speedstep has posted a photo of my factory reference 250watt 290x above, which has the 'same specs' as 1080Ti FE, TitanXp. But as we've seen, Aurora's chassis can house a 12inch card & the power plant is rated for and was sold with crazy 375w cards (250w, 300w, 375w has always been the norm). The 875w power supply is a multiple 12volt rail design, with 2 rails (2 Grfx cables, blu-wht + blu-ylw, each cable on its own 12v rail), each rail rated at:
- 18amps = 216w
- x2 rails (cables) = 432watts
- the up-to 75w through the PCI-E slot is on a different rail (the 24pin ATX rail)
A non-overclocked 250w card (1080Ti FE) might amount to ~100w + ~100w + ~50w (PCI-E slot), seemingly ample headroom. When possible, a person might try the EVGA Powerboost in order to help the PCI-E slot have added on-tap 12v source as their designed to do, given what Speedstep linked us to, where someone suggested the EVGA PowerLink also. None of this means that every 1080Ti will work or that any will; on paper one should, based on a history of long, powerful cards from the factory. Xer0h0ur installed an AMD 295x2 (500watt card) in his R4 (with power supply swap), which suggests the mthrbrd is up to the task anyway. Buy yours from a place that accepts ez returns

Yeah I believe that the card that came with my Aurora was the AMD 7870, which had a handle on it and made it quite long. I'm just more or less weighing my options at the moment, I'm just sure if I wanna upgrade my aurora, or go with a area 51 from the Dell outlet store. I don't know much about their outlet computers, but googled it and didn't really see any complaints. I just know that I wouldn't have to worry about being limited with the area 51 due to it's huge case and hefty 1500 watt power supply. I just figured if i keep my aurora, i'd go with the best single card possible and that Evga catd would probably run pretty cool. Otherwise, I was looking at 2 gtx 980's or gtx 1070's sli.
I suggest a single-card solution in either computer.
The rumor is new Area51 R3 and/or R4 will be here soon.
