Alienwaree delays R4 -Disappointed

I received my Dell displays on 12/29/2011 - very pleased.   BUT, as I previosuly posted it doesn't seem like I'll ever get my Alienware R4.  They call and say it will be delivered next Wed then on Tues I'm informed it will be delayed another week.  And there is no one to complain to.  Only somebody who is probably in India that has a set of scripted responses,  I'm extremely disappointed in Dell and find it difficult to imagine that such a large company cannot get video cards for the PCs they sell.  I wonder what the future holds for Dell if this pattern continues - apparently they don't hold enough weight with their suppliers.  I've been a Dell user for years - time to rethink what PCs I will buy for my business in the future.

OEM manufactures are overloaded and dell's supplier is probably no different since they serve more then just one company kinda how foxxconn makes boards/componenets for companies like dell/alienware,hp,apple,ect..... so higher demand for a certain product makes allocation hard

and just ot reiterate:

Taiwan based Foxconn is ranked the largest OEM manufacturer in the world, with a customer base that includes Apple, Sony, Intel, Nokia, HP, Acer and Dell. Apple iPhone, iPad, Sony VAIO systems, Intel Motherboards, HP, Acer and Dell machines are all manufactured by Foxconn. Currently the Company has more than 1 million employees worldwide, with annual sales revenue of over US$ 85 Billion

You're no doubt correct and I should just be patient but my my heavy duty XPS system died in December (but it served me well for several years) and my consulting business is suffering  until I can get restablished with a new system.  Hopefully the video card shortage will be resolved soon.

I would have a secondary system in place. You can never be to prepared. A used Lenovo x220 might be all you need until your R4 ships out..

I actually did have a backup laptop but gave it away to someone who needed one for school and I planned to buy another laptop... the timing of the XPS failure was just a bit lousy.  I'm sure the R4 will be coming soon but I do plan to pickup a laptop this week just in case.

My M17x R3 order is now 24 days overdue and they are giving me a date of at least March 15th for graphics card delivery to their facility for installation.  In defense of Dell, Thailand was hit by a massive Tsunami last year, and that has caused a very long delay in many items, from RAM, HDD's, to even the components on these graphics cards.  And prices have spiked as well.  But I am still really anxious to get my laptop.  I'm seeing some horror stories on delays, and I am even flirting with idea of cancelling.  Not sure what to do yet.

Same experience I am having here. I made an order Alien-ware R4 in the beginning of this Sept 2012, and I received a message without explanation saying it was delayed.  So, I cancelled it and ordered another upgraded one that would cost me for more than $2400 after discount and everything.  However, they postponed it to next month without any explanation given.  I was so disappointed with DELL, especially when I thought about how competitive today's tech world is for every tech company to satisfy their customers who have many options to chose while other tech companies are stealing other customers.  It is not a wonder why dell's stock is falling like a stone!
