another m14x "left hinge" failure

Here is yet another m14x where the "left hinge" has failed.

Just like the picture posted by chays77 on 01-13-2013 8:48 PM

the problem is NOT the hinge, but instead the rail that connects the lcd and lid top to the hinge.

One would guess the rail breaks at the bend, which then puts all the stress on the obviously inadequate mounts holding the PIM nuts in the lid top, then they break, then the lid splits open when the hinge is no longer inclined to move.

Sure would be nice if Dell would at least make the broken part available for purchase.  In reading the forums, it is clear Dell has no interest in admitting to a design problem.  Even if one buys into the "normal wear and tear" fantasy, the parts should be available for repair.  Or perhaps Dell assumes their high-end laptops should not last more than 2 years???

    Hi bkeltm,

It is unfortunate the computer hinges and power strip is damaged. Request you to send me the system service tag via private message. I check and let you know what needs to be done.
