Can my computer handle a second card?

In terms of the psu. Is is possible to upgrade it without voiding the warranty? What form factor is it? What 1kw and up psu would fit basically?

Do you think the aurora chassis accommodate a second 5970?

Do you have any additional PCI cards installed - a sound card, perhaps? If you do, I don't think you'll have open slots to install another 5970. Also, the 5970 is quite a big card and powerwise - you'll probably need a 1KW PSU (maybe more) to host 2 x HD 5970s without any problems.

oh and they do make PSUs that go into the drive bays. that could help.

if you dont have anything in the pci slots other then your original 5970s it will fit. Also you cant put in a new PSU because the lighting to the door is on the PSU. So if you try to fit one in youll looose your lights. If you dont care about the lights im not sure what size it is :/ . The problem is finding a 5970. They dont make them anymore and the last time I checked they were like $700 because of that. Might as well get a single 6990 for that price.

I don't think you'll void any warranty by upgrading the PSU; don't take my word for it, you might want to ask the tech folks. Due to certain limiting factors with how Alienware systems are built, you'll run into compatibility issues. It's best you talk to tech support. You might run into someone around these forums who has upgraded their PSU on a system similar to yours; you should ask them, just in case.

I apologize if I haven't been much help, I'm not very familiar with AW's technical gimmicks yet. I hear compatibility issues quite often so I can't give you a definite answer only a general take.

Thanks for all your help guys. This sounds like a huge pain. But doable. I guess I need to try to track down a hd5970.  Do I need to try to find a dell 5970 if I want to use crossfire?

any 5970 that has the same amount of memory.
