SSD Tweeks
SSD users are told to disable:
defrag
indexing
all types of "fetching"
What I found:
Disabling defrag OK, but I recommend defrag in manual as well with auto defrag in scheduling disabled. Reason being is if you have an external device you want to defrag Windows wont allow it if it is disabled. In manual you can defrag any external device or internal HDD you may still have hooked up.
Disabling Indexing, not so good. Disabling indexing (windows search) disabled my documents link. Instead of disabling indexing (windows search) I placed it to manual and all works fine.
Disabling fetch, prefetch, super fetch, whichever one you have actually slows down the SSD boot up time. For me it was close to ten seconds. I enabled superfetch back to automatic and boot-up time increased seven to 10 seconds each time it was timed, I also read an article that recommmended prefetch reamin enabled stating RAM is still faster than the SSD, and he appears to have been correct.
If your Windows version still has "Hibernate" as an option on your desktop and you never use it, you can disable this function and gain an amazing nine GB or so of space on your SSD. (probably your HDD as well).
To disable the "Hibernate" mode:
Accessories / right click-command prompt / select-Run as Administrator
at prompt ">" type in this command............powercfg -h off...................include the space betweed "g -h' and between "h off"
To turn hibernate back on replace the "off" with "on"
