Can't Acess System Setup with F2

Have a Dimension 5150 running windows xp home.  I'm trying to acess system setup and when I press the F2 key at start up, (when the dell screen says f2-system setup f12 boot menu), the screen goes to black screen with flashing curser, then completly black.  How do I access the setup?

when the system boots up try f12 and if this works you can access the setup through there.

Thanks for the suggestion, trying F12 at start up was one of the first alternative ways I tried entering set-up. I can get to the boot menu through F12, but the set-up F2 Option there still takes me back to a blank screen with the blinking curser (which is the same as when I F2 at startup). Any other ideas or suggestions? There has to be a way to get to the system setup menus besides this one F2 entry at start up.

I have the same issue.  Pressing F2 to enter setup on my Inspiron 6000 leaves me with only a blinking cursor.  The CD Rom spins up too.
Any selection on the black screen locks the computer up.  Another for instance for me is trying to choose safe mode, etc.  As soon as I hit up or down to select a boot, the computer freeszes up.  This is in addition to trying to enter setup with F2.  Help????
