NotePad Loads On Boot Up

Question

Greetings,   I have a XPS1210, after i reinstalled my XP home and drivers, notepads opens everytime i boot up. Any ideas how to solve this ?   Thanks   EdC

Krame86,   notepad.exe doesnt appear in the startup list.   I bought this XPS1210 in China, but my XP home is in English, the notepad pops out as the chinese version. Could it be that this chinese version is lauched by another program ?   Thanks

Hey Ed you could try & download a program called CCleaner. It should show you everything on the computer. After you have installed it go to the "Tools" icon & select the "Start Up" button, this should show everything that comes on startup, even stuff that is sometimes hidden (for whatever reason). If for some reason CCleaner doesnt work, try downloading HiJackThis & doing a scan, it will detect spyware in your registry as well as stuff that loads on startup, even if it's hidden. If you read the description of the stuff it finds you will notice what opens on startup & what doesn't. If you have any problems save the log & post it in this thread & I'll look over it & see if I can find what to remove for you. Hope that helps.

a silly thought.  Try checking to see if notepad is in your startup folder inside the start > Programs>startup.... Perhaps it was accidentally moved?   You can try msconfig, but you did that already.   Its also possible a batch file is launching it...   Charles

Guys, thank you all very much.   It seems my new XPS1210 was infected some how with wincfg virus, norton scanned and removed this file and now no more chinese notepad.   Thanks Guys

Oops, my bad man.  Didn't mean to step on any toes :smileysad:  In fact I didn't even realize there was a group that specialized in the HJT area.  I was just merely trying to point the guy towards a program that could possibly fix his/her problem.  I may be mis informed about some stuff to do with HJT (whatever it is I am wrong about) but I've never had any problems or caused any problems with it in the years I've used it. I would defiantly recommend the HJT team  to anyone.. I have had the misfortune of having to have the HJT team help me get rid of a nasty bug on my old system.. I have nothing but praise for their efforts..they are all courteous and knowledgable..
