UNSOLVED
password
My password prompt is getting annoying. Also, I ordered a new computer and the person I am giving this one to doesn't want it enabled. The prompt comes during boot up, when the screen is all black. All it says is "Enter current password." I've tried the instructions on the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but when I try to go to *.pwl, it asks me what program to open it up with.
I also tried using the security screen but the only choice i have is Supervisor Password is and User password is.
If it matters, I have it networked to my granddaughter's computer, but I don't have a network password set up, and I don't have user profiles set up.
Any advice?

- JoyceF,
If the password prompt comes up before Windows loads (black screen, text only), it sound like the password is a BIOS password. Since you can boot into Windows, you must know the password. So, all you have to do is go into the BIOS and change it to not ask for a password (you will have to enter the password to do this). If you provide the model of your computer, I can point to instructions for doing this.

JoyceF,
The diagram here shows the location of your configuration jumper. Move the jumper to Maintenance Mode (as shown) and restart your computer. Move the jumper back and the BIOS password will have been erased.
