Startup error message.

I get the following message when I start my Dell 8100 (Windows ME).

"Windows cannot connect to the E-support button hardware. You can still access E-support by double clicking the desktop icon. If restarting does not clear up this problem, you can repair it with E-support.

Detail: create instance enum() failed."

The tech sent me to online instructions which said to uninstall and reinstall the Dell Solution software but that didn't work. I still get the same message.

If you're installing the software from a disk or CD then it may be corrupt. Do you turn off everything before you do the install. That's REALLY important since any number of things running in the background can hose an install completely up. Regardless of how you're doing the install, i.e., from media or as a download try this to make sure. Do an Alt-Ctrl-Del (over and over) and 'End Task' on everything EXCEPT Explorer and, if it's listed, Systray. Once that's done then do an uninstall using the Add/Remove icon in the control panel. Once you've uninstalled it, and without rebooting, do a reinstall. Hopefully that'll work. If it doesn't get back the the Dell Techs, let them know what you did, and tell them it's behaving like something is corrupt. Good Luck

You need to reinstall the software for the multifunction keyboard. I dont beleive dell supplied it on their discs. You can download it from their site. That should correct the problem.
