Tutorial for using pc camera for conferencing?

Our daughter and son-in-law sent us a simple USB camera (RadioShack) for our Windows XP Dimension 8300 and got the same camera for their Windows ME Dell. The object is to be able to talk to and see each other -- especially our grandson. So far, we cannot figure out how to make this set up work. We both have Microsoft NetMeeting and Windows (MSN) Messenger, but neither seems to offer any meaningful info on set up.
My 8300 has a 64MB GeForce4 MX card with TV-out. We both have DSL lines. I have installed the video drivers that came with the camera, and can see myself on-screen on my own computer, but cannot figure out how to take the next step to be able to send and receive video and audio.
Of course, RadioShack is hopeless for information.
When I searched online for info, I found a lot of product comparisons, shopping listings and troubleshooting for more advanced problems, but nothing as basic as being to make a simple setup like ours work in the first place.
Does anyone know of a good tutorial that can help us? We'd really appreciate you help; we only get to see our grandson twice a year now. Thank you.
