700m audio problem

Hey,new to the forum, I have a Dell 700m and the audio from the right speakers stopped working. I could hear the music from the right speakers but not from the left speakers. I tried to adjust the Volume Control but no luck with that too. Any help would be greately appreciated.

Yeah, mine's like that too. Right side speaker works, left doesn't. But a few weeks ago, they used to both work when I tilted the screen at a certain angle, but now, it's only 100% right side speaker. Can anyone help us on this?

I think its a quality control problem with the Dell 700m machines. I was on other forums and a lot of people are having problems with the speakers on the Inspiron 700m.

I finally called Dell after not getting any responses here and I was told it would cost me $250 to replace the speakers since the unit is out of warranty since February 2006. However I took the same unit to Best Buy and I was told they will replace the speakers for $50. The might not use the Dell's original speakers but the savings are enormous for me to pass it up. Do you guys think its wise to go with the Best Buy replacement? After all a $20 dollar worth speakers and probably $30 worth labour is more reasonable than a whopping $250.

I have sent the following to the Consumer Product Safety Commission about the broken speaker wires. I you are having the same problem you may want to do the same. www.cpsc.gov

I have a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop computer. The speakers are in the upper part of the computer with the display.  The wires to operate the speakers run through the hinge that connects the display portion of the computer with the lower (keyboard & motherboard) portion of the 700m. Through the flexing of opening and closing the case the wires have broken. These wires are in a position where they could touch the metal hinge and this would then electrify some external parts of the computer. I am concerned that this could cause electrical shock, or if the wires became shorted there may be a chance of fire. I am concerned that this is a safety hazard.
