If you're not already doing so I recomend elevating the back of the laptop to give space for the air to vent through. I just recently bought a coolpad from www.roadtools.com and it helps a great deal.

There is also a program called i8kfangui which will allow you to monitor the cpu temp and set the fans to turn on at lower temps to keep the system cooler.

Well, Art of War, your words are in conflict with many other people who like very much the 8600 because it runs very cold & quiet with normal use. Do you experience that heat while gaming or with normal use? Pentium M and its Odem chipset normally runs cool (at least in my X31, yet to check personally with my future 8600). Have you checked the CPU usage? Is your HDD the 7K60 and warms only with its activity?

 

If the system is getting as hot as you said call tech support.  they can send a replacement.

The overheating issue is not gonna make me want to send it back. Imean its not the end of the world and its not gonna crack down.

Whille using my 8600 for word and easy stuff like that, the computer will warm up after a few short hours. The left palm rest gets warm, and the bottom of the comp gets hot. While playing games, like Raibow six, operation flashpoint, cossacks, mafia, ect,... the comp gets very warm on the palm rest and extremely hot underneath after an hour of gameplay.

Voila the problem! The fan will then start up and attempt to cool it down...

(Games work soooooooo well though)

I've elevated the back, letting more space for the air to flow around. Though that doesnt really work effectively. My friend thinks i should just put the darn comp on an ice pack, but i dont think thats a very good idea.

I like the idea of that program which controls the temperature and fan, but I dont like the fact that it pretty much cancels out my warranty.

I woudn't stay with the arms crossed, make some temp monitoring with FanGui, here are lots of posts about mean temps of your model and GPU. Have you had a previous laptop in which you are comparing the 8600 to?
