C610/battery/problem charging
I have a latitude C610. whenever i have my computer on with just the AC cord in it's fine. When i stick a battery in it the cord goes dead (the little green light on the AC adapter just goes out) and it won't charge the battery. As soon as i take out the battery I can unplug the AC adapter the plug it back in and the laptop's fine. I bought a new battery and a new power cord, so it must be the laptop. do i do? add a bios update or something, or get a new hardware peice?

Ah, shoot, I forgot that the update requires both sources of power. I think you might be stuck replacing the board :-/command-tab

You can probably find one on eBay sooner or later.- can i replace the part where the cord plugs in, where the power enters the computer? I have no idea how to replace a mother board and the price of parts and labor would be a little much, but if i have to, oh well.Thanks for your help

if flashing the bios will solve the problem, there is a way to do so without the battery, but it is very risking! if the power goes out you know what happens! You can force it with a command. Don't remember it though, but try a search.command-tab

LFANG is right. A quick search turned up the /forceit switch, which will flash the BIOS without a battery present. Also, use the /nvram switch to avoid losing the Dell splash screen.
