Please follow the below steps to fix this issue:

• Run the windows audio playback diagnose and repair from the below MS FIX-IT. Please click on the below link and run it:

       support.microsoft.com/.../AudioPlayback

• Please connect headphones or external speakers to check the sound quality.

• Uninstall and re install the latest audio drivers. Below are the steps:

1. Click on “Start” and right click on “Computer”.

2. Click on “Manage” and click on “Device Manager”.

3. Under “Sound, Video and Game Controllers”, right click each entry and click on “uninstall”.

4. Check to delete the software.

5. Restart your system and install the audio driver from the following link:

        http://dell.to/Qnizfs

6. Click on the above link and enter your system’s service tag and select operating system.

7. You will find the audio driver under “Audio”.

8. Click on it and click on “Download File”.

9. Select “For Single File Download via Browser” and click on “Download Now”.

If the above steps did not fix the issue, please try updating the system BIOS using the following link:

         http://dell.to/Qnizfs

1. Click on the above link and enter your system’s service tag and select operating system.

2. You will find the BIOS from “BIOS”.

3. Click on it and click on “Download File”.

4. Select “For Single File Download via Browser” and click on “Download Now”.

Note: The ac adapter should be connected and the battery should be at least 10% charged. Please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system before updating the BIOS. Your system will restart automatically while updating the BIOS.

arunprasath.t, Vikram M is suggesting that you download a new copy of the audio driver. That is a little different from my advice which was to re-install your existing audio driver (which would restore the settings to the default configuration). It is okay to follow Vikram M's advice but before you do it you should create a System Restore Point so that you can undo the changes if you do like them.

If the above steps did not fix the issue, please try updating the system BIOS

Just a word of caution here. Updating the BIOS can ruin the motherboard if the attempt fails. If that happens it is covered under your warranty but make a link to this thread so that you can show that a Dell person told you to make the attempt.

One thing about this bothers me. You have not given the name of your model, so there is no way of knowing if there is even an updated version of the BIOS that is meant to fix your problem. Probably there is not so you will be taking the risk of ruining your laptop for no reason. Even though it is covered under the warranty there is still the aggravation of having to get it repaired in the event the motherboard is bricked by this procedure.
