Framerate jumpy on Mobility 7500

I have an Inspiron 5100 with a Mobility Radeon 7500 card. When I play games such as counterstrike and star wars galaxies, i get framerates that speed up and slow down. I know people with worse graphics cards then this and they are getting great framerates!! what is going on and how can i fix this???

To me it appears that your video card is your weakest link, however that may or may not be what's directly affecting performance.

Is your HD defragged? How about programs running in the background?

Make sure your video card is up to date.  I have almost the same comp. as you, with a few minor exceptions.  I play counter strike fine.  I could check the frame-rate if you would like and compare it to yours.  If you have the latest drivers from dell for your video card.  Another solution I have heard of is "Omega Drivers" for ATI cards.  These include mobility cards such as yours and mine, but aren't release by Dell.  Here is the website if you would like to read up on it and possibly install those drivers if you think they might help.  http://www.omegacorner.com  Let me know if you want my frame-rates from Counter Strike and read up on those omega drivers if you think they might help you out.  Hope this helps, let me know if it does.

Do you use the Omega drivers?

If you are using XP, make sure you set your power scheme to "Always On" before playing games.  This makes sure your CPU stays at its highest Mhz rating.
I am not sure that this is your issue but it seemed a good thing to point out.

Technically right now I am NOT using the omega drivers.  I tried them out when I was try to fix a problem with a different game.  The drivers give you several different settings you can choose from for your resolution, monitor refresh rate, etc...  I have only heard that these drivers are good if your having troubles with your video card while gaming.  I used them for a little while but then found the solution to my problem and set my drivers back to the latest version from Dell.

I was unable to run the game Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo using Direct 3D mode and only could run it using software mode.  If I ran using Direct 3D then after about 3 minutes into the game I would encounter a stop error.  I solved that by upgrading my BIOS, chip-set, and trying out the omega drivers, but I later took the omega drivers off and the game still ran.  So I figured it was something to do with my chip set version being to old and my BIOS being out of date for my video card.
