Installing Wireless Router Onto Laptop
Hi, I reciently had to replace my Hard Drive and now I have to reinstall my D-Link router. I have the D-Link wire that goes from the d link to my laptop, but there is another cable involved, I think its the ethernet cable. It plugs into a power suply and then what? I can't figure out if it goes to the D-Link router or my laptop, i'm not sure it fits in my laptop yet but I can check that. If it doesn't go to my laptop I dont know what to do because it is already plugged into the d link. I'm not sure I came to the right place but I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks
- Please make sure you connect both the laptop and the router with their correct AC adapters. After that, you need two network cables (I am assuming your D-Link is a wired router). The connectors (RJ45) on the network cables look like the telephone ones(RJ11), just bigger. One cable connects your cable or DSL modem with the router. That means it goes from the back of your modem to one connector on the router that is colored different than the others and it is usually on one of the ends of the connectors line. The other cable connects your laptop and the router. Use any of the connectors on the router (except for the different colored one) and connect the cable to it. The other end goes into your laptop Ethernet connector. Hope I guessed it right! Your post is not very explicit.
