Latitude D610 Color Distortion problem

Hi,

I Have a Latitude D610 SXGA+.
I have a color distortion problem. For instance if in a text I write "ill" in bold and in black then I can see a kind of red franges around the "ll". Moreover, If I look at pictures then it is clear that I have a color problem.
The resolution I use is SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) with 96 DPI for the fonts
So, I looked at the Intel 915 driver manager.
 The default setting are gamma=1.0, brightness=0, contrast=50.
I need to increase a lot the gamma (at least 1.7) to reduce the red fringes to an acceptable level (I mean to be able to look at a full screen of text font=courier size=9 without seeing red-black letters).
Could someone help me on that problem? Could you please tell me what are the gamma value you have on your similar system?
Should I return my laptop?

FYI, I have also a Dell C840 with a 1600x1200 LCD.
The quality of this LCD seems quite better than the one of the C610. It is less bright but the contrast/brightness does not change a lot when you move around the screen

Thanks for any help.
