Problem with ALPS Touchpad on D820 Latitude
After using the laptop for a couple of hours, the touchpad goes screwy. It can refuse to move the cursor, make the cursor disappear, or make it jump the opposite direction. OS is Windows XP Pro SP2. Have tried updating the driver with no luck. Customer Support had me change the palm rest, which fixed the problem for about three weeks. I disabled the ALPS driver and the touchpad worked better, but I had could not disable the tapping function of the touchpad. Very bad because I tend to tap the pad while reading :(. With the ALPS driver running, the touchpad problem exists whether I have the touchstick enabled or not. In other words, it always does it. On a continuing note, the touchstick doesn't have this problem and can move the cursor when the touchpad is acting up. If anyone out there has a suggestion, I'd gladly like to read it; except for the guy who taped cardboard over his touchpad to disable it. Thanks.

Does anyone know if a fix has ever been found to this problem? I have exactly the same issue with my D820.
I saw a post for the 1520 which suggests putting some parcel tape under the trackpad ribbon cable, but the D820 doesn't use this type of connector, so I don't think this is much use.
Thanks in advance.
