I recently upgraded my system and as part of that I got a new Gigabyte 6600gt PCI-Express video card. Since the upgrade I have been unable to run at 1600x1200. I can run 1680x1050 just fine but 1600x1200 will not launch. If if I use command lines to run an app at 1600x1200 it just either fails to launch or gives an error that it is unable to run at that size. I have tried 2 different video cards by 2 manufacturers and got the same problem. If I hook up a different monitor the 1600x1200 is there so I know it's not the card. Any ideas what I can do to get this resolution back? Is there an updated driver for the monitor that I can't find?
I should also add that I am on the newest Nvidia graphics drivers and the newest nforce3 drivers as well. This resolution doesn't even show up if I uncheck the "hide resolutions not supported by this monitor." But as I said before, if I use a different monitor it is there.
the native resolution of the 2005fpw is 1680x1050, not 1920x1200. I don't know if the 6600GT or to 2005fpw supports 1920x1200, but for best picture quality you really should run it at 1680x1050.
I know the monitor supports it as it worked on my ti-4200 and I know the 6600gt supports it as it works on a different monitor. I run 1680x1050 when I can but some games and what not don't have widescreen support so I'm forced to run them at 1600x1200.

The 2005fpw's max resolution is 1680x1050. Period.
Well if it's not the monitor and it's not the videocard, then I don't see why it won't work. Like I said I had a 6600GT on it and it worked fine. You've tested different videocards and different monitors so I don't know what else to tell you.
Well I talked to Nvidia finally and I think I may have a reason but not a solution. What the guy there told me was that the ti-4200 used a third party bridge for the digital output. on the 6 series nvidia is using something of their own built into the chip. It could be that this change in hardware on the card itself is what is causing the problem. Basically it won't allow you to go over your max resolution even if you try to force it. So basically with the 2005fpw 1680x1050 is the max pixels it will allow itself to display which is why 1600x1200 will not work. As a test I went and installed the 71.84 nvidia drivers rather then the current 77.72. What I found with the old drivers was that when I unchecked the "hide resolutions not support by this monitor" 1600x1200 did indeed show up which it woudln't with the newest drivers. the thing is if I set the desktop to that resolution it went into this wierd sort of virtual desktop mode where the start menu wasn't on the screen. I had to move the cursor to the bottom edge of the scren and it would scroll down and I could then see the start menu. In the past if I tried using 1600x1200 everything would just squish down to fit on the screen. I had never seen it do this scrolling thing before. I may have misunderstood what he was trying ot tell me though because I thought he was talking about the digital output, I get the exact same results using either the digital or analog connections. At this point I really don't know but I don't think it's something I don't forsee either Nvidia or Dell getting fixed for me any time soon.
