I do not use the privacy service from McAfee, but just their other stuff. After uninstalling all the McAfee components, fixing the bluetooth, and reinstalling the McAfee stuff I wanted, I never tried installing the privacy service again, but now am glad I did not. I do not know if that part would mess up my bluetooth, but I don't want to think about it! Now I am certain I will not install it. Sounds like Airman32's idea to use Norton may be the way to go.

Hi there !

Is there no way around going thru all these steps and removing and reinstalling the Bluetooth card ?! How about just uninstalling McAffee ? Wouldnt that be enough ?

I am looking forward to your replies !

AND DELL !!! I am really really dissapointed that none of the DELL reps is joining this discussion, since it is affecting a lot of people and notebooks in factory status !!!!!

I hope to get rid of this annoying problem real soon !!!

From my point of view, uninstalling McAffee (at least the Privacy software) would certainly be an easier first step than disassembling the computer. The other steps might be necessary, but when I went through them, I got the same BT stack errors until I did some reverse engineering and homed in on the McAffee Privacy issue.

But now that I don't get the errors and slow processor speeds, I STILL haven't been able to utilize my Bluetooth to hook up with my Tungsten T3. I've been trying for too long to make it link up and i do not consider myself the village idiot. Either I'm doing something wrong or there's some other kind of incompatibility. I continue to be concerned that there's an updated driver for the Bluetooth card that pre-dates my computer, but my computer didn't have it on it when it was made/delivered.

Re; Dell support: I'm with you on that one! Where are they? I'm watching this post area to see if someone has the magic bullet.

I am not sure if you need every single step, but I tried many permutations that did not work before finally going through the entire series of steps. It seems that the main point of the process is to make your computer think there was never any bluetooth software or hardware in the first place. Somehow it needs to be completely gone, and then start over fresh. If I had to do it again, I would just go through all the steps, because it works (for the inspiron 8600 anyway). It goes pretty quickly once you get going, and trying to find shortcuts will probably frustrate you like it did me. I put a link on my 3/19 post (above) to another post with very detailed instructions (& links w/pictures) for the 8600.

I just received a new Inspiron XPS system which ships with the McAffee Security Suite but only with VirusScan installed.  The Bluetooth functioned flawlessly.  I then installed the FireWall and Privacy portions of the Security Suite, and I noticed I began to get the error described above.  However, I then uninstalled the Privacy portion (McAffee Privacy Service) of the Security Suite and the problem went away instantly.

I just wanted to make this point known since I do not believe all of the above listed steps are necessary since the McAffee Privacy Service has some form of conflict with the Dell Bluetooth software.

Good to hear some follow-up confirmation of my conclusions re; McAffee Privacy. The computer disassembly process might still be necessary for some situations, but I found it not to be the case in mine. I had gone through the steps and it had no effect, but I am working with the 600m VS the 8600 model that the steps were crafted for.

It still baffles me that Dell is still shipping computers with this conflict and other Bluetooth issues, even though this forum is LITTERED with customers having identical complaints. I had also sent an "FYI" to McAffee to let them know of the apparent conflict. They can't fix what they don't know is broken. I got a response from my second attempt to them, asking for more info. It appears to be a boilerplate response at this time, but stay tuned. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

I, too, finally fixed the problem by simply uninstalling the McAfee Privacy Service.  Did not need to go through any other steps. (See my prior submission above).

I've got a similar problem with my 8600.

I only started to get the error message after I installed the windows xp sp2.
Also, I don't have any McAfee antivirus software, I use norton instead, so I don't know if that's an issue.

I don't have any bluetooth devices at the moment anyway. So is there a quick way I can stop this happening? I don't want to have to uninstall hard-drives etc.

Dell has an updated driver for an internal Bluetooth card that they recommend be installed before installing the XP SP2. Have you gone that route yet? I did the update and haven't had any problems with my Bluetooth. (I'm knocking on wood right now!) Since you don't have McAfee, it's a first step. Good luck!

XP SP2 was installed automatically with the windows updates. I never thought that I'd need to upgrade drivers first.

Can I uninstall sp2 to sort this?

I also got the same ole msg 'bluetooth stack' after SP2 installation. Then, after reading the second last post, just updated the driver and no more problems.

So, try updating before uninstalling SP2 - should then work fine.

mucking around with McAffee settings has not resolved the issue

Here's the link to the driver download page. I got there by going to Dell.com and following the links re; SP2. There's a driver upgrade on the page for Bluetooth.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_600M&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3122&devlib=5&category=5&releaseid=R82522

You mentioned that you've tried changing the settings on McAffee. If you have McAffee Privacy installed, I'm not sure changing setting will help. I had to UNINSTALL (not just disable) the Privacy Service to get my Bluetooth problem to clear.
