Bluetooth

Does anyone have the Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth Module installed on their inspirion 8500? I have this device with Firmware Revision 565/6 installed on my laptop. I can't seem to configure it correctly or get any signal from an officemate's computer. He has bluetooth too, but I don't detect his computer. It seems like my software is bad because anytime I try to set up something it is very slow or hangs up. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled in three times now. Is there some other test I can do or any suggestions someone might have to help?

Also, a general help page or directions for Dell's Bluetooth module would be great.

Thanks!

Does anyone know why I would have TWO Bluetooth icons at my taskbar?

Hi,

The problem is that the Microsoft bluetooth stack is taking precedence over the Dell stack.  In order to get things working again, you need to force it to use the Dell stack by renaming the BTH.inf file in the Windows/inf directory .  Heres the instructions :-

1. Make sure you enable 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' and un-tick 'Hide Known Extensions' under Advance Settings in Tools/Folder Options/View (found on any open window)

2. Under My Computer/Properties/Device Manager, uninstall any Bluetooth devices listed.  Do no Re-Scan at this point

3. Download and extract the Dell R82522 Bluetooth driver to your local hard drive (or whichever is the correct Bluetooth drivers for your computer and card)

4. Rename BTH.inf to BTH.old found in the windows/inf directory (make sure you do Point 1 properly first so you can see it and rename it properly)

5. Go to My Computer/Properties/Device Manager and do a rescan.  When it finds the Bluetooth device, it will ask you to check windows update etc for a driver.  DO NOT LET IT DO THIS.  Instead, say no and point it to the R82522 directory.

6. When its installed the driver, you should see only ONE Bluetooth device (the Dell Truemobile one) and NOTHING ELSE ie. no Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator.

Thats it.  I carried out the above and now I can enable/disable the wireless/bluetooth with fn+F2, as well as enabling/disabling the bluetooth on its own by right-clicking the Bluetooth icon in the botom right.

Hi!

I'm still facing the same troubles (corrupt firmware upgrade), so my question is:
Does anybody still have the driver with the firmware update A03 and could send it to me?

Greetings
Christian

A03 did not help mine when the firmware got muddled. I had to replace the hardware.

Do you still have the package?
I would like to try it, before I think of a hardware replacement..

I have exactly the same firmware corrupted upgrade issue.

Would Dell replace the hardware for free? :smileysad: I really don't think its my fault since I didn't know a software upgrade can damage the hardware. And it did look like the upgrade frozen so I cancelled it.

Well, I had to send my computer back to Dell ... they replaced the BT card and it seems to be working properly now.

I can't believe theres no possibility to flash this firmware properly. I still would like to try the corrupt driver package again.

Anybody got it?

Its not the driver that is corrupt. Its the hardware that's damaged because the upgrade of the flash wasn't successful. I believe.

That's right.

but afaik this particular driver package contains a firmware flash. So, by re-installing this driver, the firmware gets updated also. What I read in various posts here, this strategy succeeds - sometimes.

Of course I would prefer a simple tool from Dell, which simply wipes the corrupt firmware and uploads a new one, but they keep silence on that.

I tried reinstalling with the same driver from my Dell CD but never succeed.

After talking for around 4 hours with Dell support, they decided to send a Dell technician on my place to fix it :D I told them from start that the BT needs to be replaced, they wouldn't believed me (which is fair enough).

I would have been just happy if they just send me a new BT which only should cost them less than $40.
