This is coming completeley out of context.  Could you please better explain what you are asking about?

If both computers have an ethernet adapter, you can connect them together using a special network cable called a cross-over cable and set up a local network, then copy files back and forth using Windows Explorer. (note that if your desktop does not have an etherent adapter, you can find one at your local computer store for about $15 and another $8 for a cross-over cable,)

If the desktop has a CD burner, you can burn the files to CD the copy them from the CD to your laptop.

You could go to your local computer store and buy a special USB transfer cable that comes with software to transfer files.
