Re-install, wireless not working
My laptop is a XPS M1710, which I have had for a couple of years.
I had a problem with my laptop which wouldn't boot because of a missing dll file.
I have reinstalled windows xp (from an old eveshm desktop I had, are there reinstall disks from Dell, if there is I couldn't find it). I dn't seem to be able to see the wireless adaptor now. I am installing the dell software from their CD in the order it says in ths forum. However when I try and install the Intel(R) Pro Wireless 3945ABG Network connection (Rev 02) one part backs itself out when it is installing (says cancelling installation), as this is happenning it comes up and says wireless network found and then that dissapears presumaby when the backout completes.
Any help gratefully recieved, its driving me bonkers having no wireless connection.
Theres no problem with the router.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.
How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems
Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card
QuickSet(Laptop only)

Sorry hadn't quite finished there. I did it in that order, though there are many wireless bits so its not altogether clear from thsi which one to do first., I tried to do it in order (excluding the other country drivers), although the bluetooth section wouldn't work as I couldn't get the wifi radio to come on till sometime after this point )probablt after trying to instal intel/pro. However I do now have wireless access, though the intel/Pro thing still doesn't work. But no big loss I guess.
I didn't use the service tag, I have no idea what this is or where to find it?
I am obviously having trouble running anything else now even though I still have all the software on my drives, anyone any idea how I can get my software up and running again quickly without reinstalling it all again - the microsoft office stuff would be handy for starters.
My keyboard is a bit screwy too, euro sign not working, its probably reverted to US I guess.

Found the service tag, whilst looking for the microsoft windows string to reactivate my software.
Any quick(ish) way of reinstalling my windows for small business would be appreciated, would be a pain to try and reinstal it, especially as I am in France for 5 months and think my discs are back in the UK.
