Optiplex 7060 randomly freezing

I have an optiplex 7060 with 16GB ram, 1TB NVMe drive windows 10. This is a  brand new drive with a fresh install of Windows 10 downloaded from Microsoft website. It all installed perfectly and quickly. I down loaded Samsung Magician and ran it to update the drive. I installed SupportAssist and ran that and updated everything it wanted to update, i.e. BIOS, drivers, etc.

I then update my GeForce video drivers. So everything is update to the newest version. The system boots quickly and runs smoothly. Sometimes it will run for two days and then freeze. Sometimes it will run for 2 hours and freeze.

I looked in the event viewer and found a few errors:

1. There are a couple like this one just with different numbers.

The required buffer size is greater than the buffer size passed to the Collect function of the "C:\Windows\System32\perfts.dll" Extensible Counter DLL for the "LSM" service. The given buffer size was 19352 and the required size was 39296.

2. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x8007045b, A system shutdown is in progress.

It is driving me crazy. The machine is only about 6 months old and refuses to stop freezing.

I am hoping someone here has had a similar problem that maybe solved it and could share how to fix this nonsense.

Any help appreciated.

    LuckyDave,

Please run the ePSA diags on the system to see if any hardware is failing. Let us know the results.

    Running the ePSA Diagnostics
Invoke diagnostics boot by either of the methods that are suggested below:

    Power on the computer.

As the computer boots press the F12 key when the Dell logo is displayed.

In the boot menu screen, use Up/Down arrow key to select the Diagnostics option and then press Enter.

NOTE: The Enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment window displays, listing all devices detected in the computer. The diagnostics starts running the tests on all the detected devices.
Press the arrow in the lower-right corner to go to the page listing.

The detected items are listed and tested.
To run a diagnostic test on a specific device, press Esc and click Yes to stop the diagnostic test.

Select the device from the left pane and click Run Tests.

If there are any issues, error codes are displayed.

Note the error code and contact Dell.

I have this issue with a 7060 freezing up, too.  Severs the network connection, so we're forced to power cycle it.  There's nothing in the event logs worth anything of value regarding this, and the system appears to be alright otherwise.

I'm trying to port over the latest drivers, but I can't get the system to remain stable for long enough...

I have the same issue.  Now wondering if it is an Optiplex 7060 hardware issue that Dell should be aware of.  The technician is supposed to call me back today to see if he can come up with anything else to check. He has already run the support assist app three times, which update the BIOS and video drivers.  It used to blue screen every day.  After those updates it has not given me the BSOD, but will completely freeze every 3 or 4 days.  Very frustrating.  Never had a Dell computer with Windows 10 do this.  I tried removing the NVIDIA card and running it on the built-in video and had the same problem (did that because the technician told me that the BSOD error was often due to a video driver issue).  Removed the 2nd Ethernet port and no help.  Just today I have added an extra 8GB ram since this PC only had 8GB to start with.  Will see if that helps any.  Was thinking about reinstalling the operating system, but after reading the comments here, I am not sure it will help.  My computers manufacturing date is 20190111.  Could it be a motherboard issue?

I have a 7060 micro with 17 8th and 16 ram, 500 SSD, worked fine for a few years, then last week started freezing while working. not good as I work online,, had to hold power to shut down and restart, running win 11 23H2 and office 365.

support assist finds nothing, currently removed SSD and will clone Saturday to see if the  change will help, next step will be to trash this Dell and buy all Lenovo and I don´t want to, but may have no choice as Dell doesn´t seem to know how to help

My 7060 SFF has started freezing randomly then rebooting.  Sometimes it happens several times per hour, sometimes it is OK for several days.  I have started disconnecting devices to see if I can determine a specific culprit but no luck yet.

Try replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery.  Bad batteries affect BIOS which affects PC operation.  I had the same problem on my PC by the way.  First freezes, then BSOD's...  There's other examples in this forum of it being the battery also.

My Optiplex 7060 SFF started doing that randomly, it got to the point where it could be hours or minutes between reboots.  No diagnostics reported any problems.  I added a SATA drive to back it up, migrated the SSD drive to that and booted from it and now have no problems.  I can no longer see the M.2 SSD drive in the Windows disk manager so I think I managed to migrate off of it before it failed.  At any rate it seems to have been the undetected culprit since the system has not had a random reboot since the migration.

I'll put in a larger M.2 SSD and migrate to it, if the reboots start happening again then it's the hardware not the SSD.  Hopefully it was the SSD itself that was failing but couldn't be detected by Dell diagnostics.  If I get failures afterwards I'll replace it with a more recent SFF system.

@leenpapillion Update: No more reboots after migrating the OS back to a 1TB M.2 SSD drive.  I can't believe that no diagnostics could detect the failing SSD drive, and that Windows could just happily reboot while not bothering to tell me which device had the issue that caused it to reboot.  I'm glad that I work on servers not Windows PCs lol.
