PE 2300 wont boot
I have "inherited" a PE 2300. It has the dell backplane for 4 scsi drives. Unfortunately I only have 3 of the drives. When I try to boot the server it finds the dual 400mhz procs and then starts a memory scan.
The last thing to show up on the screen is:
PowerEdge 2300/400
Embedded server management firmware revision 5.21
System backplane is not hot-pluggable
_
I then get a flashing cursor and nothing more. It just sits on this screen. I eventually get a fault light on the front of the server. It doesnt look like any of the drives are starting up as no lights light up on them.
I am not sure if this server got struck by lightning or just needs one small change. Any help you could provide would be great.
Thanks,
Shane
Thanks,
Shane

You need the MSDOS drivers for the Adaptec 7890 OEM scsi on a Win98 startup disk.
Its hanging because the boot sector is destroyed or drive 0 is bad.
You need to boot and format the drives.
Try a Knoppix CD and see if any of the drives are still live.
