Backup Exec Quickstart v11d - Is it useless?

We recently purchased a Dell Server (PE840) including Small Business Server 2003
There was an option to purchase Backup Exec Quickstart v11d for about £20 extra, which seemed a good idea, so we bought it

Now it seems that this version of Backup Exec will not backup Exchange mailboxes - or am I missing something?

As Exchange is a core component of SBS, why sell a backup solution that won't work - I couldn't find anything in the Dell (or Symantec) documentation that made it clear whether it would/should backup Exchange - if it doesn't, then it's worse than the 'free' ntbackup.exe included with SBS2003 which WILL backup Exchange mailboxes (albeit without the bells & whistles)

Looks like we may have to scrap Backup Exec & use ntbackup

If it doesn't backup mailboxes, then Dell should make this clear at point of sale - should we get our £20 back??

It might not have an Exchange Backup Agent, but are you sure you actually require such functionality?

If you have a small installation that uses the POP3 and SMTP connectors to interact with external e-mail servers, you could well schedule your backup to run at 3am in the morning - unmount your mail store and backup that folder to tape then remount it afterwards using the pre and post job commands.

One thing for sure is that BackupExec, regardless of what edition it is; has a lot more updates than you'd expect NTBackup to have.
