Storage Array Component - Loss of Communication
I have a MD3000i and MD1000
I have a situation where where it reports "Failed or Degraded SAS Port" followed then by "Storage Array Component - Loss of Communication" it then recovers and repeats the errors around ever two minutes. below are the errors reported. I checked all cable connections and switches and see no issues. Thanks.
Failed or Degraded SAS Port
Storage array: d1NAS
Port reporting problem:
RAID Controller Module 0, Internal connection
Status: Failed
What Caused the Problem?
A Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) port has failed or is in a degraded state. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the Recovery Steps.
Important Note
When a port reports a failed or degraded status, the actual problem could be with any of the following:
The port that the Details area is reporting as the affected port
The cable attached to the affected port
The port on the other end of the cable attached to the affected port
An internal connection (such as connections to individual physical disks)
Recovery Steps
1
If...
Then...
The Details area reports that the port is Degraded
Go to step 2.
The Details area reports that the port is Failed
Go to step 3.
2
The problem may be a faulty or loosely connected cable that is connected to the affected port. Check the connections on the cable. If needed, replace the cable and ensure that there is a secure connection on both ends of the cable.
Click the Recheck button to see if the problem has been fixed.
If this problem still appears in the Summary area, go to step 3.
3
From the Support tab, click the Gather support information link.
In the Specify file field, enter a name for the file to be saved or browse to a previously saved file if you want to overwrite an existing file.
Use the convention "filename.zip" for the name of the file. (The suffix .zip will be added to the file automatically if you do not specify one.) You may also specify another physical disk and directory if you want to save the file in a location other than the default.
4
Click the Start button.
5
After the process completes, click the OK button.
6
Contact your technical support representative and indicate that a "Failed or Degraded SAS Port" problem is being reported. Send your representative the file you saved and wait for further instruction.
Note: Additional information on this issue may be available. Please visit the Dell support website at support.dell.com and select your product model. Choose "troubleshooting" as your tool option, then search by this procedure title.

Recovery Steps
1
Click the Recheck button after completing each of the following tasks until the problem is resolved:

Hello PDbarnes,
Can I get you to gather a support bundle from your MD3000i as that will help determine what your issue is. I will also send you a private message where you can send me the logs.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,
I have sent you the logs. the support bundle was gathered just after the errors were reported. since then I have taken the controller module offline, removed and re-seated, and placed back online. rechecking errors and the same are repeated. I also realized after reviewing the logs that the errors are the same as "degraded wide port" which have been posted on this forum previously.
Thanks!
Paul
