3000cn WAN Printing
I need a little help/advice on this one! I have searched all over the forum & google and can not find any information regarding the 3000cn & WAN printing.
Setup a small workgroup network for a client, 3 Dell Dimensions running XP Pro & 1 3000cn connected via Ethernet. They have a static IP with their ISP & a Linksys Router w/ built-in 8 Port Switch. I have assigned the printer a static IP, opened port 9100 via Port Triggering & Port Forwarding and enabled ping requests through the router. They are running a web based software that they connect to via Citrix. We can print locally just fine, it's the WAN printing that is creating a problem. I called Dell Tech to confirm the 3000cn supports WAN printing, exact words "Yes, the 3000cn does support WAN printing...but we (Tech Support) do not."
The software manuf. recommends they purchase a HP print server which they know works. But if the 3000cn has a print server built-in & supports WAN printing I would like to avoid this at all costs. The only thing I have not tried is connecting the 3000cn direct to the modem, as per Linksys recommendations.
Please anyone with experience/knowledge with this please respond!
Thank you in advance!!!

modF,
Thank you for the reply. Since I posted I figured out it is the router. I tried all possible router settings (port forwarding, port triggering & DMZ) but nothing worked. So to confirm it was the router, I connected the printer direct to the modem...worked like a charm!
I have been in contact with Linksys, but they have been no help at all. My first call to Linksys, they recommended I reset to factory defaults & reflash the router. Still didn't work. My second call to Linksys, they said my issue was with the printer & call Dell. After getting rude with the rep. saying he didn't hear the first thing I said, "I know it's the router, with the printer direct to the modem...it works like it should". I asked if the IP set for DMZ has to be within the routers DHCP range for the DMZ to work, he said he would "check with his resources" after over 45 mins on hold...I hung up. I am convinced he put me on hold as to not deal with my issue.
I will set the printer's IP within the DHCP range and see if that works. If that does not work, I will try a different router. And if that doesn't work...the only thing left is to request a second static IP from the ISP. I never knew setting up this software was going to be so difficult!
