    thebos,

To install the printer properly, the best way is to follow the instructions below.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> to completely remove the printer from your computer. Restart your computer.

    Download the proper drivers.

    XP Drivers

    Vista 32-bit Drivers

    All other drivers

Install the proper drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer.

When finished, install the latest firmware for the 966 printer.

Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.

    TRSJ,

When you ran the patch, you waited until you were prompted to restart your computer, correct?

Also make and model of computer is helpful, with operating system.

    TRSJ,

Glad you got it straightened out. Thanks for posting back. If you could mark verify answer(yes, you can select your post) so if someone else searches the forums, they can see what you did to get things working.

I tried installing my 966 printer and get to the point where a window appears that says it is updating my system. That just stays there indefinitely (up to 1 hour). I am only able to get it off my screen by shutting down my computer.

So I found your instructions and am trying to follow them.

The first step is to run a clean up utility. I am doing that. A window has appeared that says "Please wait". There are moving blobs that indicate activity. This window has been on my computer for 30 minutes now.

    Any suggestions?

    launicaliz,

If you could make a new thread with the make and model of your computer abnd operating system. Make and model of your printer and how you're trying to connect your printer to your computer.
