I have uninstalled, reinstalled until it makes me sick!
I have a Dell home basic inspiron Desh top. I have 32 bit. I have my XP harddrive installed on it , also. It was working fine until one day, it decided it didn't want to work like it should. First of all, it does not show on the left side of my startup. It shows printer on the right side, with my other programs. I can't pin it to the startup, because it doesn't give me the option. The only way I see DEll AIO is when I go to printers. It has a check mark on it, so it is set to default. It does not show me anything about where to send my scans to or anything about the printer. The only thing it shows me is what is printing. It will print now, but when I go to scan something, it comes up on the printer itself, that it is downloading scan applications from the computer. It gives me 3 choices where to send it to. Either to clipboard, e-mail or file. I can't find what I scanned anywhere . I have my Owner's manual that came with the printer, but it doesn't do any good. It tells me to go to start --programs--dell Printers_Dell Phot AIO, but it does not open on my computer.
I have uninstalled it, unplugged it from the outlet, took the USB out of my computer. I reinstalled it, and I didn't plug it back in to the computer until it said to connect the printer to the computer. I have the cd that came with the printer (DRIVERS AND UTILITIES).
When it worked before this happened, it came up on my screen where I could send it to and it showed me the preview of what was scanning. That is history!
I would greatly appreciate it, if someone could just tell me what I could do, to fix the problem.
I am a little dense when it comes to software and drivers. Would you believe, I installed the XP harddrive myself? That was simple, compared to this.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.
--------------------------------------
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
These are instructions for an older version but should get you in the correct area to chage these settings.
Allowing Printer past McAfee
1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’
2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.
3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.
4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.
5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.
6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
I have tried everything. Still can't get it to work.
Could it be something wrong with my installation cd, for my printer? Is there a way I can manually install it? Also how can I delete my drivers and software for the printer? I uninstall the printer, but I don't believe it completely uninstalls it.

joy2253,
When you installed the hard drive, did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Uninstall the printer,
Restart your computer.
Insert the Dell 964 Printer disk and install. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Try reading...
Update list of applications to send scans to
Also try these tweaks...
