I doubt that what you want is available. Each model has specific and/or different functions. In order to "drive" all of those would take a pretty intelligent program.
Installing the drivers for the various devices shouldn't take up much hard drive space (if that is a problem the drives are not large enought to start with) and then all they have to do is select the device they are currently using when doing a print. That isn't too much to ask of the users. With the full suite of drivers, for the devices that can be used, you can then have a stock disk image you can load on all machines. From an Administrator point, one disk image is much easier to manage.
I'm a retired LAN/WAN Network Manager and a Hardware Help Desk Manager and basically that is how we handled the various printers that were available on each of our office's LAN which had both Laserjet and inkjet printers. The Office's Laptops that they used for remote field applications had the LAN connected printers and also a driver for a portable printer that they carried and used at field (out of office) locations.

Perhaps I should explain a little more why I am asking for this... :smileywink:
We would like to have one printer driver for all Dell printer models because we have to use it on many machines in many locations and within many applications.
Example:
- location A:
centralized IT (Citrix, SAP), standard Dell printer: 3110cn
- location B:
people are working with local applications as well as with Citrix applications, standard Dell printer: 1720dn
- location C :
people are working locally, standard Dell printer: 5110cn
The problem (the big challenge) is, that people are travelling form A to B to C and vice versa.
So it would be great to have one printer driver worldwide for all Dell printer types. Especially when I think about the chaos within our Citrix farm if we would have to install more than one printer driver for Dell models.
I would totally agree to what you said, if we would not have the centralized Citrix farm. If all our colleagues would work locally on their notebooks, it would not matter how much printer drivers they have installed.
But with each printer-driver you install to Citrix, performance is getting worse.
Also different printer-drivers may interfere with others. And I also don't want to think about updating all of these.
I also don't need a printer driver that can handle all functionalities of all printers just a generic one where you can print from paper tray 1 (e.g.) and where you can decide if it is b/w or color.
