Something happened to my Outlook yesterday. When I made a change to an e-mail account, it changed all the POP3 accounts. In the end, I deleted them all, closed Outlook, restarted it, and re-setup the accounts. That is all very well and good, but I still have a problem. When I go into Tools, Options, Mail Setup, I cannot edit, nor add Send/Receive Groups.
I did find a Knowledgebase article that seemed relevant - 284312 - but I can find no *.srs file.
When it does attempt a Send/Receive on exit, there are no accounts listed...
They should be in C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
The Application Data folder is a hidden one, so make sure you have 'show hidden files and folders' checked in Windows Explorer, Tools, folder options, View tab. There, also uncheck the box 'hide extensions of known file types', so you'll be able to see the .srs extension.
If you want to search, in search companion, under more advanced options, make sure that you check the first three boxes.
Thanks. Now I can find the .srs files. I hadn't realized that search itself would block the files if I had the files set to show all.
When I rename the .srs file, it does create a new one, but I can't open the Send/Receive (Tools/Options/Mail Setup) at all now. I get a message "The operation Failed". There are days when I "love" Microsoft...
For safety, first copy your Outlook.pst file (it contains all your e mail, contacts and other Outllook info) to another folder for safety; then try in Outlook, Help, detect and repair. If that does not fix it, repeat but check the box 'discard my customized settings and restore default settings'. That one will (probably) replace your Outlook.pst file with an empty one and delete your account information, hence the advice to make a backup copy of your Outlook.pst; you can then use File, import, to reimport from the backup copy. You will have to set up your accounts again.
The outlook.pst file is in C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
