Using IT Assistant ---> Status --> Disk Storage --> Manage Disk Storage: Connection Failed
Hello Dell Support,
Problem: I can not manage disk storage remotely on any of my 3 windows 2003 servers. On 2 of my servers running windows 2000 I click on Manage Disk Storage and I connect to the server no problems. When I click on Manage Disk Storage on any of the (3) Windows 2003 I receive the dialog
Remote Connection:
Computer: ______________
Username: _______________
Password: ________________
Domain: (Remote System)
When I type in the computer name, username and password of the local admin account I receive the message "The Connection Failed" and the remote connection dialog appears again with domain populated with name of server (Remote System). When I click on the drop down there is not other domains available but the server does belong to a windows domain.
Can somone help?
System Information: one of my 2003 servers.
Service Tag Information: 17YLH11
PowerEdge 2550
server Administrator: 1.8
OS: Windows 2003
Client running: IT Assistant version 6.5

Hi Ted,
I tried connecting to a couple of 2003 servers we have from different stations and I was able to make it work. So, I don’t think it is something inherent in 2003.
There might be some things on the management station you are using also:
Good luck!

Thank you for your posting. I found the problem.
I was working with the Dell Open Manage Group support staff I found out what was configured incorrectly.
1. Programs --> Administrative Tools ---> Component Services
a. Selecting --> Component Services --> My Computer --> (right mouse click on my computer and go to properites)
- Select Default Properties: I had to "Enable Distributed Com on this computer" and ensure that Default Authenication level was set to "Connect" and Default Impresonation Level was set to "Identify"
- Select Default Com Security: I had to edit the Access Permissions by clicking on the "Edit Default" button and adding the local administrators group to the permissions list.
- Also Verified that Lauch permissions by clicking on the "Edit Default" button and ensured that the local administrators group was added to this list.
2. Finally Step (Very Important): I went to programs --> Administrative Tools - Services and restarted the Disk Management Service
That did the trick for me.
I hope this helps someone else so they do not have to go through the madness that I had to go through.
Have a wonderful day.
