100% Disk Usage Lockup Issue

I have a Dell XPS 15Z L511Z.  I upgraded to Windows 8 with no issues.

All of a sudden in the last few weeks I get computer lockup as the disk is showing 100% usage in task manager.  This seems to be a somewhat common and difficult problem to fix for lots of users on lots of machines.

I have installed no new programs, but did roll my system back a few weeks prior to a bunch of Windows updates.  Still have the issue.

I have the latest Bios (A12).  Looks like my machine has an old fashioned bios, limited options to impact/change, nothing related to the "fixes" I've seen in forums.

So what advice might you have?  This machine is basically unusable at present.

FYI - I use windows Defender - no third party anti-virus is installed/running.  I've done a full scan, no issues

    Hi Cz9h3d,

Error code 2000-0142 indicates that the hard drive has gone bad and may require replacement. You may check the warranty details of the computer. To check the warranty details of your computer, you can click on the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA , type the service tag of your computer. Let me know if you system is in warranty.

Please reply if you have any questions.

I've run the Pre-boot system assessment per other threads.

    Fail PSA V4206

    Error 2000:01 42

    Validation: 46450

Msg:  Hard Drive 0 -  S/N xxxxx,  self test unseccessful.  Status = 79

I assume this cannot be good :(

Still well within warranty per service tag.  I sent it to you (along with name/number).
