I have a new Dell laptop with Vista installed. We keep getting this blank internet page coming up. Dell support told us that the spyware and adware programs would not take it off because it was on there before we downloaded those programs. If that is so, what use are those programs? Any help would be appreciated.
About Blank is a generic page that comes up if your Internet connection is not active. This could be because you tried to connect too soon before all your startup programs have loaded or because your Internet connection is not yet complete or has been disconnected. It could also come up if your Security Settings block the web site. It is not a program but is more of an error message. When you see that page, close Internet Explorer and check your connection. When it shows you are connected to your Internet Provider--you might have to reinitiate your connection, restart your browser.
Thanks for the response Mary. I have Hughesnet for my ISP. Sometimes the blank page comes up right in the middle of a search or on a web page that I am connected to. It also takes up the whole screen where you have to do a control alt delete to get to task manager to get it to close. So I think it comes up even when I am connected.
Then I would suspect something else is blocking access to the site. It could be high security settings in Internet Explorer or in your security/antivirus program or even in your Firewall or Parental Block settings. It can come up if you mistyped a web address or your search engine tried to open a dead link. You should even check the screens & globe (network indicator) at the bottom of the page to make sure your connection is still active. I know my cable provider sometimes drop the connection in the middle of browsing.
