can't access a specific page using IE 7 and vista

Would really appreciate some input here - essentially I have been using Vista for four months and have had very few problems - none related to IE 7. Then yesterday out of the blue one page ( the account details page) on my banking web site causes IE to freeze and I have to go to the task manager to restart IE – I can go to any other page in the site - savings account details, treasury bill page details, pay bills etc and can perform all function on any of those pages – even perform functions like tranfering funds from my checking account to other accounts, but the minute I go to that specific account details page, IE crashes. Not one other page on any other site that I visit does this.

The kicker:

If I access the banking site from Firefox no problem with any pages. They all work including the account details page. This just started yesterday and I have no idea why? Tech support from the bank says it’s Vista since they say if I can access and perform all functions on the site from Firefox, there is something wonky with Vista or my PC. They had me delete all cookies – all temp files, all saved forms etc – nothing changed. Once after I turned file sharing on and off I thought the page was active for about four seconds and then it froze. Very very weird. The bank says there are no security issues on their side that would have caused this - any input would be welcome.

Other users had similar problem with bank account, after a while was discovered that McAfee created some issues on that kind of website... Do you use McAfee?

It is more likely a problem with the website itself.

yes - I do use Mcaffe however this only effects one page of the site - all the other pages work fine and have the same functionality as this page

Go to MSCONFIG and uncheck McAfee Proxy service and McAfee redirector Service under the services TAB, restart the computer and see if the problem persist.

the bank says it's not their issue - they have done nothing - is it possible they've made changes to some ID tag that is not compatible with Vista?

canuck339,

Have you tried opening the page in IE7 in both Protected Mode On and Protected Mode Off?

I had some problems in the early days of Vista where the website designers hadn't caught up with this concept and the site would only open in one of the modes.

To open IE7 in Protected Mode Off you need to right click on the IE7 icon and choose Run as Administrator. Or, the default mode for Trusted Zone is with Protected Mode Off, so you could put your site in the Trusted Zone list.

The default for the Internet Zone is Protected Mode On.

If you have UAC turned off, you won't be able to run in Protected Mode On until you re-enable it.

Good Luck
