Ok, first of all, when I go to Windows Task Manager(Ctrl-Alt-Delete), and I click on the Preformance tab, the CPU Usage graph goes up to 100% and stays there(which is most likely causing my fan to run on high almost all of the time; it has been like this for months now). I've scanned with McAfee VirusScan, Windows Defender, and Trend Micro HouseCall, and none of them found anything that could be causing this.
I then went to the Processes tab, to see if there was anything out of the ordinary, and saw that there were 12 total "svchost.exe" processes running, and one of them was running about 80%-99& CPU(I heard that that could be caused by a trojan). I also saw that "System Idle Process" was using O% CPU(I heard that it should normally be running high).
And lately, my PC has been running very sluggish.
I have a DELL Inspiron 6000, 504 MB RAM, about 2 and a half years old, harddrive was replaced about a year ago.
First off I am just an advanced home user ( of PC's that is ). svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs.
I see so many posters here who have issues with some of the most basic PC health issues. I understand some may be first time PC users but even at that I don't see enough of good solid PC advise on how to protect a PC from getting messed up in the first place.
I will guess that 90% of PC problems that are blamed on the PC or hardware contained therein, are in fact user generated, (caused by the user).
Cleaning up a PC thoroughly with out having to resort in reloading the O.S. is not a walk in the park as some here seem to imply it is. There are many things that need to be done to accomplish this and the instructions are lengthly.
Once the PC is clean, keeping it that way needs a certain amount of effort and smarts on the part of the PC user. Certain utilities need to be installed and kept up-dated and ran periodically. When it comes to wanting maximum PC performance or something closely resembling it, some setting adjustments need to be made but not before the PC is known to be clean.
Not everybody wants their PC to run the same as others may want, so there is a trade off in some ways. If one wants all the bells and whistles running then they can forget having an efficient well performing PC, IMO.
So with that being said, I suggest that you first clean up that PC and make certain that it is nasty free before making any adjustments to it. Don't forget to keep the Microsoft Critical up-dates up-dated and to have the latest SP installed for the O.S. being used. I caution installing a new SP on a dirty or questionably healthy PC.
I also recommend that the browser security settings be set to where both decent functionality and security is obtained, something between medium and high.
I realize my comments here may not be what you were looking for, but it may help you and or others in some way in the future. IMO
Perhaps you could post on the HijackThis board and let an expert there check on your system's issue. It may take time but experts there will guide you in the right direction. Please view the section on "How to post a hijackthis log" and others before trying any step.
