Delwindowx xp re-install

I have never re-installed windows xp. If I decide to re-install windows xp are all of the drivers on a disk that I have somewhere? Or do I need to d/l them from the dell site. I have:

Dell 8300
Pentium 4
512 Ram

Do I need to format the drive 1st? I need to be walked through this. Can I get on the internet as soon as I have re-installed? I have a cable connection through Adelphia.

Thanks for your help!

    Hi Les.

When I first connected to the internet all I did wasto plug the plug in the back of the computer. There were no drivers to install. When I do this install with the disk provided by dell will it automatically delete the old partition. Do I just put the disk in the cd drive and restart to start the process? Or do I have to change the boot order to boot 1st from the cd drive and then restart. All help is greatly appreciated....

    Thanks for all your help!!!

That is because the software was preinstalled. It will need to be reinstalled from the backup of Dell installed programs CD.

For more information on how to setup your system for reinstallation of windows see the following document.

    blondeguy,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

All drivers that are needed for your system are either provided by the windows os or are on the drivers and utilities CD that came with the system. As your system ages newer drivers may be released to update the support of your system and it is always appropriate to check the Dell download site for newer releases of drivers for the hardware installed in your system.

For best results when doing a clean install of windows XP you want to remove the current windows partition from the system then allow the unpartitioned space to be partitioned formatted and reinstalled on.

The internet will not be immediately available after base software installation in most cases you need to install the software provided by your internet service provider.
