I can't log on. Computer automatically reboots.

Help!  I can't log on to my computer.  When it comes to Windows XP log on page, I can't log on under either of the user accounts.  The computer automatically reboots and comes back to log on page.  I have never had this problem before.  Any thoughts or comments?  Thanks.

Is Windows up to date on patches? Antivirus and firewall software up to date and running at all times?

Try Safe Mode - it sounds like you have been hit by a virus or worm.

I bought two dell computers this year and they both had this similar problem. Both were new. The 8400 I got last week did this to me . On the first computer  I contacted Dell and the only way to get past it was to reinstall windows. ( They sent me master disks to reinstall it like new.)  When it happened three days ago it locked up and I rebooted , then it ask for the password. (I never had one) Rather than call Dell I reinstalled windows and all my drivers and programs. It turns out my dell installed dual Tv tuner is also bad and new one on  backorder. I wish I new a way around your problem in case it ever happens again.
