Just plain old help please

I need help with the java I have been trying now for about 1 month to get the java on my computer, My question is it sounds like most of you forum people have java that works just fine, and for those of us who cant get there's to work we get sent to a place called java help or how to download java.

The problem is i have been there at least 100 times and still dont understand why it isnt working and they dont help people dell isnt helping msn cant help so who do we go to? any ideas?  that would be really help full    I go to the java place and am told to download jave (TM) develeoment kit 6 update 3 and it sounds so easy   right?   well i do this and quess what no dice it says i have java and they give you like a litte logo saying you did sooooo great like a third grader good girl you did it.

The problem is when  I  go to play a game on iwin.com no dice   NO JAVA  so now what instead of sending me or maybe anyone elese back to the java site is there i ask all of you any one person on this forum that volunteers here that can give u step by step help??? does anyone know how to download it and make it work???.   Please i am really just ready to give up. i cant pay dell $45.00 to have someone i dont understand in the first place help me cuz who knows what then i would be downloading if i went there. all i want is to play on i win.com and play spades like i used to and I cant if i type in RUN cmd    then the comand line jave there is none in my computer yet when i search there is a ton of them there are at least 25 how?  why? and what do i get rid of   in add/remove i have 2 1 is windows installer it installed java (TM) se development kit 6 update 3 and then  i have a coffee cup that says the exact same thing.  so i tried to delete the one from windows installer and it says to to me          ERROR APPLY TRANFORMS  VERIFY THAT THE SPECIFIED TRANSFORM PATHS ARE VALID???  I beg you what does this mean and what can i do about it? please.what transform paths   and how do i see if they are valid?  thank you please if possible help me

    Which browser are you using?

    According to this link.

" Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater or Netscape Navigator 4.79 or greater (with Java, Javascript, and cookies enabled)"

You have  "jave (TM) develeoment kit 6 update 3"

According to this link all you need is " Java Virtual Machine"

Regarding removing previous versions try ad remove pro.

See that is another dilema,  I have IE 5.0 then upgraded to 6.0 MSN internet browser I Have plain old explore windows xp 2 home edition 2400 dell pc.  I after downloading a java at the java site for java 6 update 3 i dont see the vm anymore in add remove then i went to msn to look up some things and it said there are ways to work around it.   It shouldnt be that hard i would think, I thought you just down load and that i that.  my cookies and my files and everything get deleted and still cant play i dont have netscape or any other browsers like mozilla or what ever else is out there should I?   i dont want IE 7 because i heard that isnt very stable yet so i am staying with 6.0 buy when i check on cmd after clicking run i have interent 5.0 is there anything you can help me with i know i need to delete all the ones i have on here they arent on add/remove they are when i click my search and type the word java i get all kinds on here. if i coud deltete them maybe that would help.  I tried deleting one and that wouldnt let me that is the one that said i need to verify the path i seems that my registry my be alittle goofy?  I dont know. any help on how to delete these where to go to delete them would be helpful,  also the little coffee cup isnt anywhere , like when i go to start programs and go there i see it yet it dosent open it just sits there like it is empty. so that dosent help me and the little gray java program once installed so you can do setting to java isnt anywhere either   so any ideas on how to clean fresh start and try again? thanks in advance  p.s the reqiurments are just 5.0 ie explore thats it but i need the applets its www.iwin.com

    I also didn't install IE 7

"Upgraded from IE 5 to MSN 6"

Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater or Netscape Navigator 4.79 or greater, there is no mention of MSN.

I would lose MSN via add/remove.

    I would install IE 6

Than after IE 6 is installed and working remove IE 5 via add/remove.

Maybe install firefox as a back up first.

When you use the search feature and it shows java in the right pane just hover the cursor and it will show the path.Right click and delete.

Also start>right click>explore>C:/program files>java>right click on the java folder and delete.

    Than install ccleaner slim build.

Use the registry button to scan for invalid entries> back up before deleting. In time if everythings OK,than delete the back up.

Now run the cleaner button, reboot, install java.

Outside of this I don't know what else to suggest. There shouldn't be an issue installing and using java.

    RECAP:
    1) Install firefox as back up
    2) Lose MSN
    3) Install IE 6 and than remove IE 5
    4) Search and delete for java as described above.
    5) Clean up invalid entries with ccleaner.

when you go to the Jave web site what file are you choosing to download.
And when you do download what happens...does the installer start and install the files????

Could be an issue with your browser settings....open IE and go to tools>internet options>advanced. Scroll down the list and see if Java is listed and checked..

Also check your security setting....go through each and make sure whereever Java is listed that it is enabled..

    "using JRE version 1.4.2_03"

You have many threads regarding this issue its hard to keep track.I thought I provided you with a link which confirms which java version is installed and it comfirmed that you have 1.6

"need to know how to get rid of IE5   and IE6"

According to this link.which is the site you're dealing with  you need IE 5 or higher.

" Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater or Netscape Navigator 4.79 or greater (with Java, Javascript, and cookies enabled)"

If you have both IE 5 & 6 remove 5 and keep 6 for updates and remove msn since its not needed.

"c:\documents and setting   then my name then under that it says proxy
    configuration: No Proxy"

I don't know why it says proxy under your user name.

if indeed when she opens up the console and it says   "using JRE version 1.4.2_03"
then for some reason that is what is installed I just checked mine and it reports the 1.6 version which i have installed.

i am wondering if she has a bad installation/uninstallation issue? Could be some conflicts with files left over and not updated correctly..

That last part about the proxy is also very confusing.

i am using IE5  but upgraded quite awhile ago about 2yrs ago to 6 but if I delete the 5 and 6 then i wont have a brower right?  sorry not very literate here with computers.  anyway i probably do hava a lot of left overs from times that i downloaded java because it did work for awhile i had to constantly clean my cookies and delete old files then i would try and get on to the site you only need 5 or 6 to enter its just the java problem,   i wonder if i need a proxy>? dont what that is but wonder if the ports arent letting my iwin.com games be known that it is ok to let them enter i have zone as a firealarm   will i still have iE if i get rid of IE 5-6?   last time i had it java like i said it worked for a few hrs and when i would turn it off i would have to go through all these crazy things to get it going again.  like I said when i go to search and just type the word Java there are at least 15 different versions but i would run them not down load so now i have the latest downloaded java 3 update 6 but yet still cant play it i will still try all your stuff thanks

ok  you two for helping me thanks  i went to add/remove file and saw the java that i should have on here downloaded  then above that is one from windows installer it is jre 1.6.0_03
when i tried to delete this it says verify that the specified transform paths are valid?  so I cliked on change to see what would happen it  says the net work I am trying to use is on a network resoursse that is unavaliable. then it says click ok or enter alternet path to a folder containg the installation package jre 1.6.0_o3 iftw.msi   what does this mean??? it seems it wont let me delete it.  yet i do have the java on add/remove i should have. i had java working pretty well about 4 months ago untill i downloaded AVG virus remover and it caught my java   iftw.msi file as a trojan it is being held captive in my backup files. i had asked java about this and i read that in some case's no known reason to java, that some virus dectors will dectet this file as a virus, and this is what happened. i still have it and it says it is not healable wonder if any of this mess has to do with my java problem? should i get rid of AVG? and redownload the java and then add AVG back?  it would seem that it would cause the same problem. I dont want to be on a network? what does that mean? and why cant i uninstall it? odd.  This whole thing became a night mare when infact I truly thought that it wouldnt or even shouldnt be a hard thing to do. before i go on i'll wait till you answer this dozey   thanks again

lets' ensure you are downloading the correct Java ..

    go here

scroll down and look for the heading of

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3

click the download for this...and choose Run instead of save.....

FYI ..i have AVG and i don't have any issues with it and Java..

Do not get rid of either IE 6 it is the version of the browser you need in order to run Java..

Are you by chance connected to some type of network??
