NTLDR is Missing on 1720
I have long had problems with MediaDirect not working properly on my year old 1720 notebook. In particular, any attempt to boot using the MediaDirect button would give rise to a blank screen but I would then be able to boot normally. Just recently, however, I experienced NTLDR is Missing errors during normal boots and Dell eventually talked me through a complete MediaDirect/Vista reinstallation via a phone call. After they had disconnected the call, I attempted to check out the MediaDirect Boot button and immediately got the NTLDR error again.
I can successfully restore a recent Acronis True Image full disk backup but this, too, gives the NTLDR error during normal boot if I ever try to boot via the MediaDirect button. I have done my own Vista reinstallations to the point where the first load has been successful but, every time I try to use the MediaDirect button, I get the NTLDR error and can do nothing more with the machine unless I first restore my Acronis back up. This restored system, too, always fails if I attempt to boot via the MediaDirect button and I then have to repeat the Acronis retore before I can get the notebook to work again.
I'm waiting for Dell to come back on this situation but, meanwhile, does anyone have any advice for me, please? Thanks.
