Problem loading software on XPS 1530 running Vista Home Premium

Is anyone having a problem loading software (both 3rd party applications that are Vista compatable & MS updates) on a XPS 1530 vith Vista Home Premium? Either the programs take hours to install, or they do not install at all. I am the admin for this machine so I do not think that is the problem, and this is getting quite annoying.

Some programs install better if the install them as Administrator by right clicking on the install icon and clicking Run as Administrator. This, however, should not happen when installing Windows updates. You could hav a virus or other malware that has modified the update process, a known problem. Get some free virus/malware programs and do some scanning initially. You may eventually may need to do a Start-up repair or reinstallation of the OS )F8 at the boot).
