Registry cannot load the hive file

After reading thru the messages about the Registry/c0000218 problem, I realize I don't have the expertise to recover from this.   Is this covered under Dell's home warranty?
Here's my message:

D4700 now displays:
STOP: c0000218 Registry File Failure
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent or not writable.
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support.
Thanks.

m123,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

No, home service supports the replacement of failed hardware components. It does not cover software troubleshooting and repair.

Thanks.  I read that website and the sentence below was included in the troubleshooting and was hoping it would be covered under Dell's home warranty.

"The registry files may have been corrupted because of hard disk corruption or some other hardware problem.

Here is a Microsoft article on how to fix your error  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;156640

FWIW, when I get an error that I don't know what it is, such as your hive file, I do a search using www.google.com and can usually find the info or fix.  That is how I found your fix.

My hard drive failed the utility test so it wasn't all a software problem!  New PC shipped with bad hard drive.

m123,

Now you can contact tech support line and report this failure. Parts will be sent out and a tech will be dispatched to replace the failing drive.

Dell Tech Support found the failed hard drive.  I'm disappointed that a Dell Moderator was so quick to tell me it was a software problem and not covered under 4-year at home warranty.  I wasted much time with software recovery before checking hard drive.  I declined the hard drive replacement offer and PC is packed up to be returned.
