Sound Problem

on a Dimension B110 Desktop that belongs to my elderly neighbor. The sound is not very loud. I checked the volume icon in the system tray and it is turned up all the way and I also checked the settings in the Control Panel under Sounds and Auto Devices.I also turned the knob on the speaker up as high as it goes.  My neighbor has two small speakers connected to this computer. What else can I check?

    Agree with fireberd’s comments

Suppose the $65k question is – has it always been “not very loud”?

What type of speakers – are they analog or digital – self powered?

    Is it using integrated sound?

If sound card has been added then enter System Setup & under Audio Controller change setting to Off

Plug a headset into the speaker jack and see if the volume is OK there.  If it is, then it's his speakers.  Powered speakers are required (ones that have a built in power amplifier) - verify that his speakers are the correct type.

Check the Windows Media Player(or any other player) setting. If it is set low, then you can't set the volume control to any level.

Bell Boy, No, the sound has not always been on the quiet side. It seems to have happened recently. The sound card is Integrated 2 Channel Audio and the speakers are the Dell A215 Speakers. All this is the original equipment that came with the computer.

Chuket, You may be on to something. I will check into this the next time I go over to help.  Thanks to you both.
