Sound problems

My sound is barely audible. All volume levels are at the maximum level.  I am not sure how many different media players I have, but am wondering if they conflict with each other or am I missing a driver or is there a patch I can download?  When running the audio tests, the results all say that everything is working ok.  I have Santa Cruz Audio Device with Altec Lansing system,  subwoofer with 4 speakers. All appear to be hooked up correctly.  I have had sound before with this set up.  Could some virus have knocked out my sound? Can someone give me some suggestions to try? Thank you

    Uninstall the Santa Cruz sound card in the Windows device manager then restart Windows and it will be dectected and reinstalled (refreshed).  This takes care of many flakey problems and may fix yours. 
     
    If it doesn't, repost on the Audio section of the forum (the place for audio issues) and include your PC model and Operating System. 
     
    One note, the Santa Cruz sound cards seem to be problematic with XP.  I've seen several posts on the audio section and several that also gave up on the Santa Cruz and installed a current SoundBlaster card and that fixed all their problems.
