Stop running programs
I have a Optiplex computer that I am trying to fix again and when I start the computer it is running between 15 to 20 programs on start up. Can anyone tell me where to go to turn these off? this computer runs on windows 98 and is pretty old. It is a Optiplex GX100.

You can stop them from loading at startup in many cases by opening the program and going to Options, Settings, or Preferences and unchecking "Load at startup" or something similar. A second alternative is to go to Start|Run, enter msconfig and click OK, then uncheck the items you don't want to start automatically on the Startup tab. A third alternative is to use the excellent little freeware program here.
