Vista Business Activation - PLEASE

Hi,

I have reinstalled the Vista Business on my DELL LAPTOP (Vostro 1700) by using a Microsoft Vista DVD we have in the office. Now it is saying it can't activate because the key is invalid. I have used the same key which comes with the laptop (the one stamped in the base of the laptop).

Could anyone help me please?

Normally this is simply a case of mistaken identity--the letter B mistaken for the number 8, the letter i for a one, an O for a zero...etc. Use a magnifier to verify. If the vostro came with XP instead of vista, you need a vista activation key, not the xp one on the bottom of the laptop. You must have a unique vista key for each computer as well as the correct version vista dvd. It can be a different vista dvd, but it must be the right version. Use the actual Dell dvd that came with your computer to be sure. Call Microsoft Activation Desk for help if all else fails.

Hi
The OEM key on your computer will not work for a Retail version of Vista ,
you have to use the Dell Vista DVD that came with your computer for it to work
there is no way around that .
The retail version has a special key and the same for
the Dell supplied Vista DVD it has its own key and the 2 will not interchange !!
So it looks like you have to reinstall with your own Dell DVD !
Backup all of your data before you install with your Vista DVD ,and do it before
Vista locks up on you and it will with in about 30 days !
Good Luck

Wrong.

All vista media accepts OEM, retail, VLK keys no matter where you got it from.

activation is a different story.

You didnt happen to change anything on the laptop right? Vista is really really bad at activation .Sometimes even a driver update can have activation not work. I suggest calling the activation line. They will give you this really really long number to type in to activate your product.
